This workshop is about

Understand and use all those buttons on your good camera

Progress from grabbing lucky shots in Auto to creating stunning, eye catching, and even artistic, images using the Semi-Auto and Manual features on your 'good' camera.  

Understand and practice the fundamentals of photography including lighting, composition, focus, subject, exposure, gear,  colour and tone.

(NB: This workshop is not about taking photos with cell phone cameras or cameras without any manual controls)

About your Tutor

Hi I'm Celia Walmsley, professional photographer based in stunning Central Otago and Wellington.  

I've been photographing seriously for over 30 years (yes I started on film and darkroom) and been a full-time professional photographer for over 12 years with my company Stagebox Photography. 

I specialise in people photography including Weddings, Portraits, Branding and Dance.  Being based in Central Otago, Landscape and Dark Sky photography are passions. 

I'm also passionate about tutoring photography and helping you to get the best out of your camera and create images that truly excite you.

I hold a Master of Fine Arts (Photography) and Certificate in Tertiary Teaching.

    You'll Learn

    WHAT WE COVER - Day 1 

    • Understand the key buttons & menus on your camera
    • Use Semi auto controls on your camera to elevate your photos quickly
    • Understand Light to instantly improve your images 
    • Get one subject in focus with a blurred background
    • Get everything in focus using Aperture Priority 
    • Focus on your subject using Depth of field 
    • Tricks for when you need to get that photo quick! 
    • Freeze action and create blurred movement with Time Priority
    • Get pin-sharp focus
    • Compose your image in camera to make it stand out from holiday snaps 
    • Hands-on practice with your camera  

    WHAT WE COVER Day 2  

    • Use Manual settings to make your images look more like art works than holiday snaps 
    • Take full control of your camera
    • Use your camera to create images you want
    • Create stunning photos in different genre e.g. portrait, landscape, sport, movement, family, events, indoors, night sky, street, flora & fauna
    • Lenses and gear you need (and don't need) for what you want to do
